Planing Content for Your Membership Site
Members pay for good content! For most membership sites, the content will be the backbone. This is what will inform your members and keep them coming back for more. It is also an opportunity for you to showcase your expertise!
Before you even get started with your membership site, and opening your doors, you should plan your content for a least a period of several months. That's because it's far too easy to get excited to start running your site, only to lose steam and not know which direction you should head months down the road. When you plan this in advance, it's just a matter of plugging in the content and going on from there.
The first thing you'll need to do in order to plan your content is some research into the needs of your niche. The absolute best place to do this is in niche forums. Forums are great because that is where the most passionate people hang out. Sort forum threads by the most viewed and replied to, and the chances are that you will hit upon some hot topics.
Another great way to come up with ideas for content is to visit Amazon.com. Search for books in the niche. Many of these books will allow you to search inside them. You'll want to take a look at the table of contents. The topics written here in the table of contents are probably very good ideas for you to focus on as well.
Your content planning does not have to be very in depth. Some people create whole outlines for every single month. Other people just write down the general topic. This is all you need to do! This is not only great for your own organizational purposes, it is also a good way to entice your members. When they see what is coming up, they will be up more likely to keep their memberships going.
After you have gathered the ideas for your content, and made your plan, you'll need to start writing the content. If you are an expert in the niche already, this will probably be very easy for you to do. If it is something you'll need to research, you can find a lot of information on the Internet, and at your local library. Keep in mind that you need to use reputable sources to keep your own reputation intact and to serve your members as best as you can.
Then you can get started writing! If you want a more hands-off method, you can outsource this portion. There are many ghostwriters who will follow your specifications so you can get great content without having to do a lot of the work yourself.
